I love working with models for photography. Nothing makes a piece come to life more than a beautiful woman. The photograph becomes more than just a shot of the necklace. A product shot is better for detail but, the detailed shot can be put into the larger model shot or followed with a product shot.

This necklace was made for the 1999 Tucson Museum of Art show. It wasn’t used in the catalog, it may not have been done in time for the catalog, I can’t remember. It sold at the show to a favorite local client.

I love the subtle color in Rose de France amethyst and wanted to work with it.I bought these stones from an apprentice of Jeff Graham’s, Chris Byron. I originally bought the center stones from Chris and then begged him to make the stones for the chain. I wanted to make a splashy necklace that featured the stones more than the metal work. My design problem was how to cluster the stones and more practical engineering problems like how were the mounts to be made. I cast all these mounts myself from my own design.

I don’t like 14K gold but in white gold it is hard to swallow the higher cost of the piece when the color is almost indistinguishable. I would love to make a piece like this in Argentium. If I run across the stones for something like this I will make it. Putting a set of stones together is no easy task especially when it is this many stones.

Chris was the one to introduce me to Rose de France amethyst. Jeff’s cuts, which Chris was learning, make the most of any material. This stone had such flash, it was blinding. I have a few pieces of Rose de France still, maybe even a larger piece, I’ll have to look for it and put it into Argentium.

Here is a close up of this piece along with the earrings the client ordered
