This Sugilite I bought rough and cut myself. Originally this was a single long triangle stone. I somehow broke it so I re cut it into the two stones pictured. Unfortunately I am unable to photograph it to get the color correct. It is too dark in the photo but monkeying around with the color on  my photographs is too much desk type work when I rather be doing bench work. I also have reservations about color manipulation with Photoshop.

This pendant is an inch and a half long so I put it on a delicate 18K white gold chain. It is available through Mark Bahti, www.bahti.com

I use 22 or 24 karat gold for any gold bezels I make. I don’t like having to push 18K gold onto a stone and would really rather not use 14K for bezels. 22 or 24 karat is so nice to set stones in. I can use thicker bezel material for the look and feel of the piece but still be able to push it onto the stone. 24 K gold or fine gold has a rich buttery look to it that I love putting next to some colored stones. I like using 24 k for the ancient look, it has a deep color which I associate with ancient work. 22 K will get the high polish I put on my work but still have the softness I love.  22 K will color match a jewelry piece I make in 18k. In my silver work I use fine silver for bezels for the same malleability reasons.

This pendant has 22 karat bezels holding the stones in on an 18k back. The white accent between the stones is 18K.
