This is the only all metal, no stones, floral necklace I have made in this series. The main driving idea behind this was the bracelet. I had made cuff bracelets for a few of the other floral pieces but the “Flowers For Brenna” got me interested in making link bracelets.
Dick Barber cut the sheet Argentium sterling and started the bends on the hydraulic press then finished the tube shape with the hammer. I started to weld the Argentium tubes and got Dick to weld a bunch of them too. One of the really nice things about Argentium is that it is torch weldable. I LOVE welding so I really enjoyed this project. Once Dick and I got the tubes all welded I started thinking of making this with 18K gold and made two tubes with 18K. I Really enjoyed making gold tubes, gold and Argentium move very similarly in the press and under a hammer. I made the flower interiors out of 18K tubing and 18K round wire.
I keep saying that I really enjoy doing my work and that is the truth. I love coming into my studio and starting or continuing a project. I love working with beautiful stones and metal. It’s the bookkeeping that I hate.
The “Lily” necklace and bracelet are available to purchase or to view at www.southwesternjewelry.netfrom Vicki Turbeville in New York City, 40 West 25th Street, 10010, Ph# 347-256-0127
I will probably make an all sterling floral necklace and would love to make a gold and platinum set but I would have to wait for a commission for that. Diamond, Platinum and 18K or 22K gold would be FUN.
